Smarter concrete. Stronger future.

Pre-Budget Submission lodged to 2026-27 Federal Budget

Concrete Sustainability Alliance seeks Commonwealth investment to accelerate decarbonisation of Australia’s concrete sector

SmartCrete CRC has lodged a Pre‑Budget Submission for the 2026–27 Federal Budget on behalf of the Concrete Sustainability Alliance, requesting $27 million per year in Commonwealth funding over four years.

“Without government intervention, Australia risks higher construction costs, greater reliance on offsets, and dependence on imported materials to meet net‑zero targets. Smart, targeted policy can unlock domestic innovation, protect competitiveness, and cut emissions at the same time.”

— SmartCrete CRC CEO Clare Tubolets

Concrete Sustainability Alliance: A SmartCrete CRC Initiative

Tackling market and technical barriers for a decarbonised concrete future.

The Concrete Sustainability Alliance will unlock and accelerate the decarbonisation of concrete infrastructure in pursuit of Australia’s emission reduction targets through industry-led innovation supported by Commonwealth investment.

Key Documents

Next-generation decarbonised concrete infrastructure for a net-zero Australian economy.

In order to achieve full sectoral net-zero emissions in line with the targets outlined in the Paris Agreement, Australia must accelerate its investment in decarbonisation action for the cement and concrete industries.

We must revolutionise our approach, adopting a systems-based framework that simultaneously tackles the technical, market, regulatory, and capability and skills barriers where they are encountered in the supply chain.
